manually syncing items with your device

If you want more control over what stays on and gets removed from your Zune player or Windows Phone, use the Manual sync option. With this option, you add and remove individual songs, videos, and pictures from your device; the Zune Music + Video software does not sync anything for you. This guarantees that synced media will stay on your player or phone, even if it is deleted from your collection. For more about choosing sync options, see Setting your sync options.

You can also manually sync items when your player or phone is connected to a computer as a guest. The Zune software won’t automatically sync guest devices, so the only way to add and remove items is by manually syncing. For more about connecting as a guest, see Syncing your device to another computer as a guest.

To manually add items to a device

  1. Connect your Zune player or Windows Phone to your computer.

  2. Start the Zune Music + Video software and go to Collection.

  3. Find the item you want to add (for example, a song, album, playlist, or video), then drag it to the Device iconPhone icon in the lower-left corner.

To manually delete items from a device

  1. Connect your Zune player or Windows Phone to your computer.

  2. Start the Zune Music + Video software, go to Device or Phone, and then click a category (such as Music) to see what's on your player or phone.

  3. Right-click the item you want to delete, and then select Delete from device name. The item is deleted from your device but remains in your collection. The item won’t be synced again unless you drag it to the Device iconPhone icon .
