When your battery is very low or takes a long time to charge, a charging icon may cover your player’s screen. As the battery gets lower, the battery icon will turn red, and depending on the model of your player, you might see a "low battery" warning message. When the battery is empty, the empty battery icon is displayed in the middle of the Zune player screen.
If your battery is completely drained, you may see a black screen.
On a Zune HD player, the battery icon appears on the top right of the lock screen . If the battery is low, the icon will have an X through it. Once you start charging your player, the icon will flash. When the battery icon becomes solid and green, your player is fully charged.
If the battery doesn't seem to be charging normally, try restarting your player. If the battery still looks low after you restart, try these steps to get your player fully charged.
Make sure you’re connected to a power source that works with Zune players (such as the USB port on a computer, an Xbox 360 console, the Zune AC Adapter, or the Zune car charger) using the USB cable that came with your device. If you’re connecting to a computer:
Connect your player to a USB port on the back of your computer. Ports on the back of your computer are likely to carry more power.
Keep charging until the home screen appears. Your Zune should now be charged enough to turn it on. The charging battery icon will appear in the upper-right of the lock screen for Zune HD players, and in the lower-right of the screen for other Zune players.
Continue charging for 30 minutes.
Disconnect your Zune and then reconnect it to the power source.
Continue to charge until the fully charged battery icon appears.
If none of these steps help, you may need to send your player in for service. Visit the Zune service website at service.zune.net. Register your player on this site and then submit a request for service.
