player doesn't turn on or respond

Your player doesn’t turn on when you take it out of the box

If your Zune player doesn’t turn on when you first take it out of the box, connect it to a power source using the USB cable that came with your player and charge your battery. The battery takes about three hours to fully charge when your player is connected to a high-power USB port on the back of your computer.

If you don't see the charging symbol, try switching to a different USB port on your computer, or use a different power source that works with your player.

The screen is frozen or the controls don’t respond

  1. Try restarting your player.

  2. Unlock your player.

    • If you have a player other than a Zune HD, make sure the Hold switch is in the unlocked position and press the Play/Pause button to wake up your player.

    • If you have a Zune HD, press the On/Off button on the top of your player to turn it on. Then move your finger across the screen to unlock it. If the screen doesn’t turn on, press the On/Off button again.

  3. Unlock Zune HD

  4. Connect your player to a power source and let it charge for at least 30 minutes. If you’re connecting to a computer, use a USB port on the back of your computer.

  5. After 30 minutes, disconnect your player. By now it should have enough power to start on its own. Reconnect it to the power source and continue charging.

  6. Once your player is fully charged, update it with the latest version of the Zune software.

  7. If the previous steps don’t work, try reinstalling your player’s software. This step will erase your player’s content and software and replace it with a fresh installation.

  8. If your player still isn’t working, visit service.zune.net and follow the steps to request repair service.
